Editor and project files
Edit, import, save and recover a complete story.
Three editor files
| File | Purpose |
|---|---|
story.mdx | Prose, JSX components, imports and native chart declarations. |
chart.js | A script declaring const chart or const model. |
data.json | An array of records, editable as JSON or imported from CSV. |
CSV uses D3 autoType; use JSON when identifiers must remain strings. Auto-run compiles after typing pauses. Manual Run uses ⌘/Ctrl+Enter. Errors retain a usable previous preview until corrected.
Save and open
Save project downloads version-1 JSON containing version, story, code and rows. Open restores that file; it also accepts MDX. Imported files wait for Run before executing. MDX-only exports retain imports but do not bundle their companion files.
The browser's import resolver supports ./chart.js, ./data.json, ./story-components.js, ./weather.js, React, D3, visdelta, its six built-in chart entry points and chart styles. It is not a general npm bundler or security sandbox. Only run trusted authoring files.
Drafts and migration
Each sidebar case preserves its local authoring draft. Query parameters select a case; the old weather-case name opens the unified weather narrative. Reader control selections are transient.
Browser storage is specific to the origin. If moving from the VisDelta website, download old drafts at its Story entry, then Open the downloaded JSON in this editor. The old page preserves its browser storage. A saved project remains portable between addresses.
